Traditional, heritage variety with dark leaves and outstanding flavour. Very winter hardy, can also be used for ‘cut and come again’ baby leaves. For outdoor sowing
When April to June for mature plants and to September for baby leaf.
Where In a prepared seed bed
How Sow thinly in rows 30cm apart. Cover lightly with fine soil. Firm gently and keep moist. Seedlings appear 14-28 days.
Care When 5-6 leaves are formed, transplant to final position 45cm apart for mature plants. Firm plants in well. For cut and come again baby leaves, thin to 10cm apart. Cut when approx. 7.5cm tall, they will regrow for 3-4 cuts.
Harvest June to December for baby leaf, or September to March for mature plants.
For indoor sowing
When March to May (to harvest as mature plants).
Where In trays of moist compost.
How Sow thinly, cover with a fine layer of compost and firm gently. Keep at approx. 15°C and keep moist.
Care Acclimatise to outside conditions. Transplant to final position 45cm apart, firm in well and keep moist.
Harvest September to April. Pick a few leaves from each plant. Use young flower shoots as broccoli.
