Where Use a jar which can be covered with muslin or a clean cloth for sprouts. Or, use a dish, seed tray or punnet for sprouts or seedlings.
How Wash the amount of seed to be sprouted in cold water and soak for 8 hours. Place seeds in jar and cover with a cloth. Once or twice each day rinse the seeds with tepid water and drain. Or, place several layers of damp kitchen towel in the bottom of a tray or dish or a thin layer of compost, sprinkle with seed and cover with more damp paper or compost. Ensure the paper or compost remains moist at all times.
Care Place in the dark, at approx. 15°C, a cupboard is ideal. Once seedlings develop move into the light allowing the small leaves (cotyledons) to colour for green sprouts or leave in the dark for white sprouts.
Harvest Sprouts after approx. 3-5 days when approx. 2.5cm long. Children are fascinated by how quickly they grow and love sowing them.
