A popular variety producing high yields of globe shaped onions with good mild flavour and clean white flesh. An excellent variety for storing. For indoor sowing
When January to February, for the biggest bulbs.
Where In trays of seed compost.
How Sow thinly, cover with 1.5cm of compost. Firm gently and keep moist. Cover with glass, polythene or propagator lid. Keep at approx. 15-20°C. Seedlings appear 14-28 days.
Care Remove cover when seedlings appear. When large enough transplant 5cm apart in trays. Stand outside for a few days late May (avoid frosts). Transplant 23cm apart in growing position. Keep moist and weed free.
Harvest August to September.
For outdoor sowing
When March to April.
Where In a prepared seed bed.
How Sow thinly in rows 30cm apart. Cover lightly with fine soil and keep moist.
Care When large enough thin to 23cm apart, use thinnings for salads or transplant them to grow on. Keep moist and weed free.
Harvest August to September. When tops turn yellow bend them over to assist ripening.
