Very versatile, grow as mature plants in summer and as baby leaf for much of the year. Has thick, fleshy stems and is slow to bolt. For outdoor sowing
When May to August (for mature heads)February to October (for baby leaf).
Where In a prepared seed bed. For February to May and September to October crops sow under cloches or in the greenhouse.
How Sow thinly in rows 40cm apart. Cover with 1.5cm fine soil. Firm gently and keep moist. For continuous crops sow every 2-3 weeks. Seedlings appear 14-21 days.
Care Leave unthinned for baby leaves or thin out to 20cm apart for mature plants. Keep moist and weed free.
Harvest June to October (for mature heads) April to December (for baby leaf). Take whole heads or for baby leaves cut a few at a time from approx. 5cm high, allowing leaves to regrow for 2-3 further cuts. Baby leaf crops can also be grown in well watered containers in a greenhouse.
