Semi-evergreen, grass-like flowering plants provide outstanding displays for the front of borders. Self-sows happily to form attractive drifts.Easy to grow and tolerant of poor soils. For indoor sowing
When February to May.
Where In a tray of seed compost.
How Sow thinly, cover with a fine layer of compost. Cover with glass, polythene or propagator lid. Keep at approx. 15-18°C. Seedlings appear 14-28 days.
Care Remove cover when seedlings appear. When large enough to handle transplant 10cm apart in trays of compost. Grow on at approx. 13-15°C. Gradually acclimatise plants to outside conditions from late May onwards (avoid frosts). Transplant 25cm apart in flowering position.
Flowers May to July. May flower in the first year from an early sowing.
