Smooth succulent leaves that may be used as a substitute for spinach. Long standing, hardy variety with excellent bolt resistance during hot weather. For outdoor sowing
When March to July.
Where In a prepared seed bed.
How Sow thinly in rows 40cm apart. Cover lightly with 2.5cm of fine soil. Firm gently and keep moist.
Care When large enough thin to 15cm apart. Keep moist and weed free. Seedlings appear 7-21 days. Pick regularly, a few leaves at a time, do not strip plants completely.
Harvest June to October. Protect with cloches in cold weather from October on for later harvests. Plants often survive the winter for further crops the following year. Pinch centre shoots back regularly to prolong harvest period.
