Choy Sum
Choy Sum is a very popular 'Asian Green', closely related to Pak Choi with similar flavour.
Sow outdoors thinly, from May to September where they are to crop, 1.5cm deep, directly into finely-prepared, well-dug, fertile soil, which has already been watered. Sow from May for baby leaf, June onwards for full-size plants. Allow 40cm between rows. Seedlings usually appear in 14-21 days. Keep well-watered in dry spells. Harvest unthinned as baby leaves, or thin to 25cm apart to produce mature plants. Regular sowings, made every two to three weeks, will ensure a continuous supply. Harvest from July to November. For 'baby leaf,' pick a few leaves from each plant from approx. 5cm high. They will regrow for up to 4 'cuts.'
