Carrot - St Valery
St Valery is an all-time great exhibition variety. It is a high yielding maincrop variety, popular since the 1880's. The carrots are high quality, have very uniform roots with excellent colour and provide an excellent source of vitamin A and antioxidants.
Sow outdoors thinly where they are to crop, 1.5cm deep directly into finely prepared soil which has already been watered. Allow 30cm between rows. Early sowings may benefit from cloche protection. Seedlings usually appear in 14-21 days. Thin by harvesting young carrots evenly from the row, allowing remainder to grow on. Water well until plants are established. Regular sowings made every three weeks will ensure a continuous supply of young roots. Roots can be lifted in autumn. Remove soil and store in dry sand.
