In stock
Seeds selected by the RSPB to attract wildlife. A hardy perennial, flowers the year after sowing. A rich source of pollen and nectar lasting into late autumn. Flowers are followed by seed heads for birds to eat in winter. Height:120cm(4ft)
Sow indoors February to April, for surest results, 0.5cm (1/4in) deep, in a tray of compost. Water well and place in a cold frame, unheated greenhouse or on warm kitchen windowsill. Keep moist. Seedlings usually appear in 21-30 days. Transplant individually when large enough to handle to 8cm (3in) pots. (Always hold seedlings by a leaf, never by the stem). Gradually accustom young plants to outside conditions, before planting out 60cm (2ft) apart. Or sow outdoors May to July, thinly in a seed bed, into finely prepared soil which has already been watered. Thin seedlings to 5cm (2in) apart before planting out to flowering position in autumn. Flower July to October, the following year.
