Not only does it provide early colour for borders and wild areas, but it makes an attractive groundcover between spring flowering bulbs. Flowering the year after sowing, the plantâ€™s foliage is bright green and provides the perfect canvas for these small blooms.

Sow outdoors in a seed bed, 0.5cm(1/4in) deep into finely prepared soil which had already been watered. Seedlings usually appear in 14-28 days. Thin seedlings to 5cm(2in) apart when large enough to handle. Plant out to flowering position in autumn, allowing 15cm(6in) between plants.
