This cottage garden favourite has a long flowering period and is a valuable nectar source for bees and butterflies, and habitat for moth caterpillars.
These large and attractive ‘pincushion’ flowers are ideal for a cutting garden. Plants are mainly seen growing wild in hedgerows, grassland and on roadsides, they make an ideal addition to the flower border and wildlife areas.
Height:Â 65cm(26in) Plant Class:Â Hardy Perennial (HP).
Sow indoors for surest results, 1.5cm(1/2in) deep, in a tray of compost. Water well and place in a cold frame, unheated greenhouse or on a warm windowsill. Keep moist. Seedlings usually appear in 14-35 days. Transplant seedlings individually as they appear to 8cm(3in) pots. Gradually accustom young plants to outside conditions (avoid frosts), before planting out 20cm(8in) apart.
