Mangetout Pea ‘Sweet Green Norli’
Early, Dwarf, Sweet & Stringless
Description
‘Sweet Green Norli’ is a very popular dwarf mangetout variety which has an early crop, of tender, stringless pods. Growing to a height of just 50–60 cm, it’s perfect for smaller gardens, raised beds, and containers, needing only limited support. The pods are best picked young and flat, delivering a crisp, sweet flavour ideal for salads, steaming, or stir-fries.
Awarded the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit, ‘Sweet Green Norli’ is reliable, disease-tolerant (especially against fusarium wilt), and an easy, rewarding choice for home growers wanting high yields in a small space.
Key Features
Dwarf habit – compact 50–60 cm plants, ideal for limited spaces
Early cropping – fast, reliable harvests from late spring
Stringless sweet pods – best picked young for top flavour
Good disease tolerance – especially fusarium wilt
RHS Award of Garden Merit – proven quality and reliability
Versatile in the kitchen – delicious raw, steamed, or stir-fried
Sowing Instructions
When to sow: March–June
Where to sow: Outdoors in prepared soil or large containers
How to sow:
Sow seeds 5 cm deep
In flat drills 15 cm wide
Space seeds 5 cm apart
Germination: Typically 7–14 days depending on temperature
Harvest: May–August (into October with later sowings)
Growing Instructions
Grow in a sunny, sheltered spot with well-drained but fertile soil. Although a dwarf variety, giving plants light support (twigs, mesh, or pea sticks) when 8–15 cm tall improves yield and keeps pods clean. Water regularly during dry spells and pick pods often while young and flat — this encourages continuous cropping and the sweetest flavour.
