Pea Purple Mangetout Snow Pea Shiraz
This incredibly attractive bi-coloured flowering Mangetout Pea is a stunning new British bred variety. These plants will not look out of place in your flower border with their bright purple pods. These pods are at their best when harvested and eaten young. They can be eaten raw in salads, added to stir fry or steamed. The pods will lose colour when they are cooked. The purple pods are full of anthocyanin (antioxidants). The plants have resistance to powdery mildew resistance and some resistance to downy mildew. Height 100cm.
How to grow Shiraz Mangetout Peas
Sow the seed from March to June when the soil is warm. Make a drill about 12-15cm wide and 4-5cm deep, sow seeds 5cm apart throughout the drill, water and then fill in. Support as seedlings appear. The plant grows to the height of 100cm. Regular watering is essential once the plants are in flower and pod. As well as sowing direct, they can also be sown in old guttering in the greenhouse for hardening off and planting out to get an earlier crop. It is ideal for successional crops and germinates at 5 - 25C. Harvest time is June to September.
