How to Grow Hubbard Squash ‘Red October’ F1
Sow seeds indoors from April to May in individual pots at 20–22°C, sowing seeds on their side around 2–3 cm deep. Alternatively, direct sow outdoors from late May to June once all risk of frost has passed.
Harden off indoor-raised plants before planting out. Space plants generously, allowing 1–1.2 m between plants, as vines are vigorous and spreading.
Grow in a sunny position with fertile, moisture-retentive soil enriched with compost or well-rotted manure. Water regularly, particularly during dry periods, and feed throughout the season to support strong growth and fruit development.
Harvest fruits in late summer to autumn once fully coloured and the skins are hard. Cure fruits in a warm, dry place for 10–14 days, then store in a cool, dry, frost-free location.
