Purslane - Winter Miners Lettuce
This is a useful winter green salad herb, which is said to reduce cholesterol levels. It has a good flavour, and is high in minerals and vitamins.
Sow under cover in trays in warmth. Germination takes 1-2 weeks. Or sow direct in drills, in July/August. Thin to 30cm spacing for winter supply. This is a cold-resistant salad leaf, cropping from October to early spring. Easy to germinate but slow growing. Keep well-watered at first until established. There is good regrowth after first cut.
