Organic Gourd - Waltham Butternut
This variety produces elongated fruit with small bulbous end. Its skin is pale golden orange with deep orange flesh of sweet flavour that improves after storage. It produces about 4 fruits per plant, weighing up to 2 kg.
Sow in April and May. Sow 2 or 3 seeds into 7cm pot in greenhouse at 20C. Late May sowings can be made by placing seeds 5cm apart direct into soil in a cold frame. As soon as seedlings have produced 2 rough leaves prick off into individual 7cm pots. Gradually harden off before planting outside 120cm apart in late May or early June. Cold frame sowings can be gradually hardened off before planting out.
