Summer Savory Satureja Hortensis

This variety features fine bright green leaves with a spicy flavour used most often to flavour beans but also good to add to cooked dishes. It grows to a height of 45cm.

Sow outside in late spring when the soil has warmed. Sow in shallow drills or broadcast where the plants are to remain, covering lightly with soil and watering well. It prefers good soil in a sunny position. Germination normally takes 2 to 3 weeks under an ideal temperature of 18-20C. Transplant when large enough to handle. Thin the seedlings to 30cm apart and leave to grow. Then leave the plant where it is as it doesn't take to being moved.
