How to Grow Taylors Garlic Bulbs
Plant garlic during autumn or early spring, following the planting recommendations for your chosen variety. Autumn planting is commonly used for garlic in the UK.
Choose a sunny position with fertile, well-drained soil. Avoid ground that becomes waterlogged during winter.
Separate the garlic bulb into individual cloves shortly before planting, keeping the protective papery skin intact.
Plant each clove with the pointed end facing upwards, approximately 5cm deep, allowing around 15cm between cloves and 30cm between rows.
Keep the planting area free from weeds and water during prolonged dry periods, particularly as the bulbs begin developing.
Harvest during summer when the lower leaves begin to yellow and die back. Carefully lift the bulbs and allow them to dry thoroughly before storing.
Garlic Growing Tips
Choose well-drained soil to reduce the risk of bulbs rotting.
Separate bulbs into individual cloves immediately before planting.
Plant cloves with the pointed end upwards.
Keep the growing area weed-free to reduce competition.
Avoid excessive watering as the bulbs approach maturity.
Allow harvested garlic to cure in a dry, airy location before storage.
