Product Description

Tomato Black Opal Seeds

Tomato Black Opal Seeds produce delicious dark chocolate-coloured cherry tomatoes with outstanding flavour and impressive yields. In a good growing season, a single plant can produce well over 100 small cherry tomatoes, making this an excellent choice for gardeners looking for both unusual colour and heavy cropping.

Black Opal Tomato has good disease tolerance and late blight resistance, providing additional reliability throughout the growing season. The dark cherry fruits are packed with flavour and are perfect for salads, snacking, lunchboxes, and colourful summer dishes.

This is an indeterminate tomato variety, so plants require support and regular removal of side shoots. With good watering, feeding, and ventilation, Black Opal can provide a generous harvest throughout the summer.

How to Grow Tomato Black Opal Seeds

Sow Tomato Black Opal Seeds indoors on a warm kitchen windowsill or in a greenhouse.

Sow seeds approximately 0.5cm deep in pots and cover with a thin layer of compost.

Keep the compost well watered and warm. An ideal germination temperature is approximately 15–20°C.

Seedlings should begin to appear after approximately 7–15 days.

Once seedlings are large enough to handle, carefully transplant them into individual pots. Continue growing them in cooler conditions, but do not allow young plants to become cold, as this can stop their growth and make it difficult for them to recover.

Plant into the final growing position from April onwards. Plants can be grown in large pots, grow bags, or directly in greenhouse soil.

Tomato Growing Tips

Pinch out the main growing tip after approximately six trusses have formed.

Maintain steady growing conditions for the healthiest plants and best crops.
