How to Grow Sweetcorn ‘Strong Star’ F1
Sowing time: March – May (indoors or outdoors)
Sowing depth: 2.5 cm
Germination: 1–2 weeks
Time to harvest: approx. 4 months (harvest Aug–Sep)
Sow indoors (March–April) in pots or modules and transplant out after hardening off, or sow direct outside from late April–May once soil has warmed. Plant in blocks rather than single rows to ensure good pollination and full, even cobs.
Space plants roughly 90 cm apart in rows 90 cm apart, giving a final plant height of around 1.8 m. Keep plants well watered during dry spells and feed with a balanced fertiliser. Remove suckers only if required; strong, sturdy stems aid support for large cobs.
Harvest when silks dry and the kernels are plump and milky—test by pressing a kernel with your thumbnail.
