Derived from a cross between Capsicum frutescens and Capsicum annuum var glabriusculum, Lancerâ„¢ fruits much earlier in the season while inheriting much of flavour of its parents.
Fairly tall upright growing plants with soft green leaves carry very large crops of slender, upright bright red chillies. The chillies themselves are deciduous and so are very easy to harvest and ideally suited to drying. With an outstanding flavour and moderate pungency, Lancerâ„¢ is one of the most useful chillies in the kitchen and goes particularly well with fungi.
Sow indoors from January to April, in soil 0.5 cm deep, in separate pots if possible. Pot on in late May outdoors either in containers as patio plants or in a well protected site. Peppers can be slow to germinate so allow up 35+ days. Compost should not be too moist to prevent the seeds from rotting. All chilli peppers are very sensitive to the cold.
