Greater Knapweed - Centaurea Scabiosa
Greater Knapweed has large purple thistle like flowers from July to September. It is a medium to tall native perennial found on dry, grasslands. It is most often associated with taller swards but can occasionally found in scrub land, woodland edges, road verges and waste ground. Greater Knapweed is an important food source for a wide range of insects including bees and butterflies.
It grows easily from seed and can be sown at any time.
