Title

Lovage Seeds – Aromatic Herb

Lovage (Levisticum officinale) is a traditional and hardy perennial herb valued for its strong, celery-like flavour and vigorous growth. Often described as a cross between celery and parsley, lovage is ideal for adding depth to soups, stews, stocks, and salads.

This tall, leafy plant produces abundant fresh foliage year after year once established, making it an excellent choice for herb gardens, borders, and allotments. Both the leaves and stems are edible, and the plant also produces attractive yellow flowers later in the season.

Easy to grow and highly productive, lovage is a long-lived herb that requires minimal maintenance once established.

How to Grow Lovage

Sow seeds indoors from February to April or outdoors from April to June.

Sow seeds thinly into trays or prepared soil and cover lightly. Germination can take 10–20 days.

Transplant seedlings once large enough to handle into a sunny or partially shaded position with fertile, well-drained soil.

Lovage grows into a large plant, so allow 60–90 cm spacing between plants.

Water regularly during establishment, then only during dry periods once mature.
